“SAP Is Eating Oracle’s Lunch …”
I got SAP Business Flash e-mail newsletter yesterday. There is a story “SAP Is Eating Oracle’s Lunch …” and it refers to “Oracle outlines ambitious business software plans” USA Today article.
Some quotes from this article:
Oracle has spent nearly $20 billion on about a dozen companies the past two years, including rivals PeopleSoft and Siebel Systems.
SAP commands 21% of the corporate applications market. Oracle is a distant second, at 13%, says market researcher IDC. SAP says software license revenue worldwide grew 18% in its fourth quarter, based on preliminary results. Among its customer wins: Samsonite and Applied Materials.
“SAP is eating Oracle’s lunch while customers try to figure out what Fusion is,” says Erin Kinikin, an independent software analyst.
Last year, SAP launched the latest version of its business software, NetWeaver. Oracle President Charles Phillips sarcastically calls it NetDeceiver, a warmed-over version of old software that is too complex. SAP executives refer to Oracle’s plan as Project Confusion and claim Oracle has little software to complement its database business. “This is a database company trying to get into the applications space, and that business is in a state of chaos,” says SAP America President Bill McDermott.
SAP is the leader in worldwide market share for corporate applications. Oracle wants to catch the SAP. There is a great competition. I am wondering what is going to happen.
I found that SAP started a Safe Passage Program for migration from PeopleSoft, JD Edwards, Retek or Siebel Solutions. Oracle acquired all these companies in past two years. Oracle certainly won’t like SAP’s this program.
