Eran Kampf is Blogging about Duet

Eran Kampf, a software developer working at SAP Labs Israel as part of Duet team, published his first post of a series about Duet development. –I assume Eran is a gentleman- He said:

My name is Eran Kampf and I’m a software developer working at SAP Labs Israel as part of Duet team here. The group here in Israel is in charge of building SAP platform and tools to support the development of the different applications in Duettm.

Besides posting about .NET development, SAP and other technology matters I’ll try to post (and maybe get some of my coworkers to guest post) information regarding Duettm development.

The first post is “Duet behind the Scenes”. He is explaining the Duet architecture (drawn by an unknown artist). :) Look at this!

And his first some quick facts behind the scenes:

  • The Duet client is built using the .NET 2.0 framework and an enhanced version of Microsoft Information Bridge Framework (IBF).
  • The first version of Duettm concentrates on scenarios in the Outlook environment.
  • Duet is a joint effort with Microsoft and SAP and was developed by teams at 6 different worldwide locations.

It is just a curiosity that what kind of programs (ABAP or Java) is working on SAP stack for Duet.

I / We are excitedly looking forward to reading next posts.

Its a hopeless integration product. similar product from IBM is 1000 times better. Even some freelancers build better product. I dont know what microsoft is doing with these sap. Microsoft is a classic company. Each and every process is well thought. I dont think they made the right decision to be with SAP. Oracle could have been better choice. Bloody SAP installation take ages and still it doesnt get complete. just study this duet architecture. looks like came out of an under-graduate material science who doesnt know even the basics of computer internals.

    Ajay,

The other question might be “What is SAP doing with this Microsoft?“. You said Oracle could have been better choice. Do you think that Microsoft and Oracle like each other? Microsoft is #1 on its own area Desktop Tools and SAP is #1 on its own area Enterprise Applications. Their commitment to a job is simply a win and wins strategy. They both will win at last.

Duet is still not a big product according to me. We will see its new scenarios then its market success.

    Tuncay,

Have you ever seen a beautiful and sleek girl marrying with an ass and resulting a win-win situation. SAP products are most hopeless and customer unfriendly. You just need a team of 100 SAP consultants to customize that. I have not found even one customer giving good reviews for SAP, post installation. Oracle or JD edwards would have been far better choice. I have not doubt Oracle will take over SAP in the final. After all you have to think from customer point of view.
