Preparation for a Telephone Interview
I was looking my old documents and look what I found. I want to share it with you. It is a document which was sent to me by a recruiter who is a Certified Account Manager and SAP Staffing Manager. I am not giving his name and the company name, since I didn’t get a permission.
The name of the document is “Preparation for a Telephone Interview“.
- The goal is to get the Face to Face interview.
- Be in a quite place so you can talk openly.
- Have the job description in front of you.
- Have your resume in front of you.
- If it just has to be on a cell phone, make sure to charge the battery. Sounds stupid but it’s simple stuff like this that make bad interviews happen.
- You should go to the company’s website prior to interview.
- Do not bring up money… this is not the time… they already know where your range is.
- Ask what the goals are for the first 90 days.
- Also, ask
“What will I have accomplished when then annual review comes around?”
- Take notes on interviewer’s questions.
- Prior to interview, write a 2 minute synopsis of your skills as they relate to the job description… You may be asked to tell about yourself.
- Have a reason why you want to leave your current job. Rehearse it and make it smooth.
- Have accomplishments at the ready like awards, recommendations by top level executives, conferences you have spoken at, published articles, etc.
- At the end, say
“NAME, we have exchanged a lot of information and to make sure I have covered everything, is there anything you need clarification on or more detail on?”
Be quiet and let the manager speak.
- If yes… meet them head on.
- If no,
“Great, NAME, it really sounds like we have a basis for a personal visit, what day next week works for you, I can be free on _____.”
- EMPLOYER
“I am still interviewing candidates, I will have to get back to you.”
- CANDIDATE
“Normally NAME when you hear that, it’s an indication that someone does not fit or you are really satisfied… Do I fall into either of those categories?”
If no, back to 16. If yes, obviously probe because it really could just be needed clarification. This is not the time to leave information on the table.
This is just outline of what can help the interview go well. #18 can take people out of their comfort zone, but it really helps to find out the “hidden issues” if there are any. Make the question personable and friendly and it will come across very well. Good Luck.

Wordpress is a good choice. At first I started with JRoller, then BlogSpot, then finally Wordpress. I am happy with Wordpress.
Thank you for the tip! You are absolutely right! I will add a ‘Contact’ page under Navigator.
