A year ago today - September 11th, 2006 - I’ve begun to work for Pacific Cycle. Yes, Pacific Cycle is the company I work for as an SAP ABAP Developer. Let me introduce Pacific Cycle to you.

Pacific Cycle Inc., a division of Dorel Industries Inc., is a global leader in branded consumer products. Pacific Cycle designs, markets and distributes high quality bicycles and other recreational products around the world.

Pacific Cycle’s products span a wide range of brands including Schwinn, Mongoose, GT, Schwinn Motor Scooters, Kustom Kruiser, Roadmaster, Pacific, Dyno, Powerlite, InSTEP and Pacific Outdoors.

You can check out more at Pacific’s Story and Company Timeline.

Shortly, Pacific Cycle is a bicycle company, and we use SAP to support business. I am a member of IS department. We have a very small IS department including IT support and SAP teams. SAP team has only 7 people, and belive it or not I am the only ABAP programmer. I am working with very nice people.

SAP version is SAP 4.6C. There is an upgrade plan for 2008. Mostly I am working on SD, MM, FI modules and EDI, IDOC programming. We have also BW, XI, AII, RFID systems and a middleware product iWay.

After one year I could say “So far so good“. ;)

    Dear Tuncay,
thanx for this update. Great news, especially the “I am the only ABAP programmer”, which for sure makes you feel comfy & confident.
As an certified ABAP-Programmer, maybe I should apply for, too… (just joking, I don’t own a greencard :-)

One question: What do you think about the (job) situation for foreign SAP professionals, willing to migrate to the USA?

    Klaus,

I am glad to see your comment here again. I like your new blog.

I am not able to follow up everything about US job market recently, but what I can say is it’s not easy for foreign professionals. Recently SAP market is good comparing to two - three years ago. If someone has a great experience in SAP, he can apply to jobs which give H1 visa. But everything depends on interview process.

    Hi,
I am an SAP IS-U Consultant and I had 2 job offers from US companies. I saw that there is a great demand for SAP Consultants in US and as IS-U Consultant is a rare skill nowdays there is a short of supply for this roles. I’m now in the process of obtaining H1B visa. Hope this year will there will not be a lottery as I sometimes get unluky when it comes to random.
Nice blog Tuncay. Keep up the good work.
